Two years ago, when owners CHI CHI VALENTI and
JOHNNY DYNELL
closed their seminal nightclub MOTHER, it was with the goal of
moving their unique world online. In Spring 2001 they opened
their newest "club" THE MOTHERBOARDS, a clubland virtual community founded to
provide an open forum for discussion and propagation of
alternative scenes worldwide. That tumultuous year saw "The
Boards" swell to tens of thousands of visitors monthly.
In celebration, on Saturday June 22, 2002 the MOTHERSHIP was launched.
What better way to celebrate than with a full-dress spectacle?
MOTHERSHIP, produced by the
JACKIE FACTORY
crew, imagined the hijacking of a starship by a group of NY nightclub utopians. They
were fleeing all kinds of nocturnal threats: an oppressive
city government and a zombie-like populace (sound familiar?) They
seize a star cruiser and dub it "The Mothership", then set off in
search of other planets to pursue their hijinks. As the journey
was endless (club closed at 4:45 AM !) there was plenty of time for shows -about three hours worth- while on board.
