WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEW YEARS IN THE NEW NEW YORK?
A NYE 2009 REPORT
PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE NYE EVENTS FOR DECEMBER 31, 2008. FOR THIS YEAR'S NEW YEARS EVE PICKS, VISIT OUR
NEW YEARS EVE 2010 SUGGESTIONS PAGE.
Though New Year's Eve in New York City clubs is often referred to as "amateur
night", it IS possible to spend a fabulous night out without breaking your
budget or being in a crowd of the clueless. We've been producing, performing at
and attending alternative New Year's Eve events in Gotham for years, and are
happy to share some tips. First of all, beware of ridiculously high cover
charges - they usually mean a crowd that you wouldn't want to rub shoulders
with, let alone bring in a new year. Secondly, avoid Times Square and midtown at
all costs - the events listed here will take you to neighborhoods where cabs
should still be available except at the absolute peak hours, and the streets
passable.
Here are four New Year's Eve options that we recommend, including those we'll be
appearing at AND those we've attended in the past. We'll be adding to this page
as new events come to our attention, and also recommend checking the
MOTHERBOARDS NIGHTCLUB FORUMS for dozens more options and choices. Have a
magical New Year's Eve and we hope to see you at one or more of these!
