RHAPSODY IN PINK
If midtown seems to emanate a magic pink glow this week, its no doubt our friends PINK MARTINI, as Thomas, China, and the other members of this 14-piece ensemble descend on Gotham for their CARNEGIE HALL debut Wednesday. We've been loving them since the Jackie 60 days, and have watched their evolution through the years, at venues from the much-missed FEZ to concert halls worldwide. It's too late for tickets to Carnegie Hall, but we do urge you to come out the night before to RHAPSODY IN PINK, to experience lots of their music and stars in a big, glamorous NYC club setting, and tribute shows by some of New York's finest.

There is nothing like a CARNEGIE HALL debut to pile on the full-tilt glamour! Both the THE JACKIE FACTORY and PAPER MAGAZINE are thrilled for their longtime friends PINK MARTINI - Portland, Oregon exports and Stars of Everywhere - that their Carnegie Hall debut is June 13. They are teaming up the night before for "RHAPSODY IN PINK", a big celebration with hosts PAIGE POWELL, FRANCESCO AND ALBA CLEMENTE, JOHN REINHOLD, TANYA SELVARATNAM, SANDI DUBOWSKI, MR. STUART BLACK, JUSTIN BOND, JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL, KENNY MELLMAN, DANIEL NARDICIO, JONNY MCGOVERN, THE HOUSE OF FIELD, RAPTURE CAFE, MUDHONEY SALON, NEXT Magazine, HX Magazine and The NY Blade. Highlights will include DJ JOHNNY DYNELL jamming with the PINK MARTINI BOYZ (the band's incredible, multi-culti percussion section), uber-artiste JULIE ATLAS MUZ interpreting one of their songs, CHI CHI VALENTI performing "Jazzoetry" with Pink Martini trumpet God GAVIN BONDY and inspired Method Go-Go from JESSICA RABBIT and VANGELINE DOMINATION, PIRATE STEVE and HUNTER JAMES. There's also video homage by ALTHEA LOVELESS, a PINK VODKA Open Bar from 9 - 10, and specials all night. The party also celebrates "HEY EUGENE!" the new Pink Martini album in stores now.

Tonight Unisex go-go goddess TRINA ROSE unveils her new film A YELLOW BRICK ROAD, which examines the WIZARD OF OZ from the munchkin's perspective. The short film, which will be screened several times during the night, is set backstage as a theatre company puts on a gender-bending version of "The Wizard of Oz". As the play unfolds, GLINDA, a young pre-op transsexual queer theorist (played by EPIPHANY) finds a friend in Maggie, a female little person who is assigned the role of "Munchkin #7" (played by writer-director TRINA ROSE). The film inspires gender-bending interpretations of the classic WIZARD OF OZ characters and motifs all evening.
Factory DJ JOHNNY DYNELL is resident at this artsy, campy weekly, produced by JAMES COPPOLA. Hosted by demigods JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL and JUSTIN BOND, and New Kids GLENN MARLA, EPIPHANY, ACID BETTY, SIR SABRINA et al, its an inexpensive and fun night out complete with this season's de rigeur accessory - a smoking roof!
