THE NEW BLACK
Is fratboy free, imaginative NYC Nightlife making a comeback at last, despite all odds? With every closing bottle bar we see life in the olde town yet, and with two club openings of note within a month, a trend must be afoot. We are overjoyed to bring news of a full-time home for MR. BLACK, the much-loved DANCE DEN shut down since last Labor Day. This six-night-a-week venue, is exactly what Real New York and its denizens Real NYC Clubbers need right now. We also loved everything about the new SANTOS PARTY HOUSE on a recent visit - it took two years for this thought-out venue to open, but they are on the way it would seem to something memorable and lasting. Don't you just love good news?
FRIDAY JUNE 20
MR. BLACK DANCE DEN 2.0
27 WEST 24TH STREET NYC
GARY 49 provides opening night rule at June 20's Second Coming of the dance den and clubhouse MR. BLACK. Boasting a full cabaret license, the best dance club of the past few years once again emerges as a full-time venue. With GARY 49 Producer SAMMY JO and Australian DJ diva SVETA, JOHNNY DYNELL spins the maiden voyage of GARY in its new home. "The Blacks" have worked lightning fast to convert this dark, cavernous underground bar in Manhattan's Flatiron District. Featuring a full schedule of wildly experimental nightly parties, MR. BLACK remains fiercely independent and defiantly unique.
MR. BLACK will be open six nights a week with its signature basement feel, saucy staff, strong drinks, pumping sound system and infamous cocktail servers including THE ASS. The opening roster of DJs and hosts includes SAMMY JO, JOHNNY DYNELL, DREW ELLIOT, MACKIE DUGAN and LADYFAG (Fridays, GARY 49), NITA AVIANCE and GANT JOHNSON (Saturdays, TUBWAY), JONNY MCGOVERN (Thursdays), SOPHIA LAMAR (Wednesdays) and SPENCER PRODUCT and DAN CACIOPPO (Sundays).
The original MR. BLACK opened in January 2006 and was an immediate hit - an all-inclusive dance den for all walks of life, fun, wacky and unpredictable. When the venue closed abruptly in August 2007, its wildly devoted followers were left stranded in a diminished nightscape. With its reopening as a fulltime venue, MR. BLACK resumes its infamous weekly parties and its mission: "We are here for those who want to dance, have fun or get it on. We believe that music is the soul of nightlife and base our principles on the 80's and 90's but do not live in the past... We are proud to present nightlife in all its diversity, fostering new talent and pushing the envelope, all with a sense of humor."
Open Tuesday - Sunday 10pm-4am
$5 cover during week, varied weekends
100 PERCENT DYNELL
THE NEW PODCAST FROM DJ JOHNNY DYNELL
At the core of what we do is the quirky, ever-changing soundtrack of DJ JOHNNY DYNELL. Johnny's recent mixes are now available straight to your computer or IPod, with no pesky real-world CDs or payment involved. His new 100 PERCENT DYNELL podcast is now live through its own site, johnnydynell.net. The first chapter is his much-loved DADDY DOES DISCO mix, created as a New Year's 2008 present for Factory friends, fellow DJs and Club Family. 100 PERCENT DYNELL 2 is a brand-new Johnny Dynell hybrid - ELECTRO-GOSPEL - recorded at the June 7th CHURCH SESSIONS: MR. BLACK, during their Saturday nights at CLUB SHELTER. They are each about 80 minutes and can be downloaded separately if desired.

THE BUBBLE LOUNGE SF

Calling all JACKIE FACTORY performance family and creative folk in SAN FRANCISCO - the fourth edition of TINGEL TANGEL SF should be splendid, though we can't attend in person this month. This collaboration in the divine NORTH BEACH neighborhood has been thriving under the wing of WEIMAR NEW YORK producer EARL DAX and a gaggle of local hosts and talent. JOHNNY DYNELL is spinning next month's edition, but we urge all our Bay Area tribes to show up for a gorgeous night out Pre-Pride.
This all takes place in THE BUBBLE LOUNGE SAN FRANCISCO, in celebration of its tenth anniversary in the Bay Area, and continues every last Wednesday of the month for a glamorously mixed crowd.
