CABARET MAGIQUE FINAL EDITION!
WEDNESDAY APRIL 7, 2004 @ THE BOY'S ROOM
#9 AVENUE A AT FIRST STREET NYC
DOORS 10:30 PM TILL 3 AM, $5 all night
CABARET MAGIQUE is the Parisian Cabaret series from CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL, the Nightlife
Utopians behind JACKIE 60, MOTHER and CLICK + DRAG. For fifteen months, the Wednesday
clubhouse featured over a hundred performers including classic
Weimar Cabaret, Old and New School drag, fetish go-go, Incoherent spoken
word, burlesque, musical numbers on theremin, violin and xylophone and
even a surprise rendition of "Wheels on Fire" by DEBBIE HARRY.
To make way for the JACKIE FACTORY'S Really Big
Shows this Spring and Summer - THE BETTIE BALL, NOTS 14 et al) the APRIL 7
edition of Magique will be the last in its current weekly form. We've
enjoyed bringing you this performance laboratory both at CHEZ ES SAADA,
where it began, and at TAPIS ROUGE, where it found a new home. As we say
"adieu", big thanks to Producer at Large MICHAEL JAMES O'BRIEN, our
loyal Magique audience and superb performers, and the staff and
management of TAPIS ROUGE (now BOY'S ROOM.) It's been
Magique!
We'll be ending on a high note, with Blonde Goddess WORLD FAMOUS BOB as
she celebrates the birthdays of herself and "The Twins." The pioneering
Burlesque diva and performance artist will be accepting accolades,
flowers, kisses and gifts from a comfortable throne, and there will be
beaucoups de shows in her honor, including a 1:30 number by Divine Diva
of Burlesque DIRTY MARTINI. Dirty's a world-travellin' icon who simply
MUST outdo herself, show after show. She's just back from Paris and
promises something very special in honor of BOB.
Earlier at 12:30 is the return of one of Magique's most exciting new
performers - British transplant GLENN WEBB aka THE ALLIGATOR BOY. "An
Alligator Boy Is Born" is an avant pop performance piece "based on the
autobiography of any queer life, with special guest JZ Bich. This
talented newcomer also joins the cast of "Wonderland" this weekend (see
below.)
