NOW FOR SOMETHING TRULY SCARY... SATURDAY NIGHT HALLOWEEN!
Though overpriced evenings and mob rule is usually the case on a Saturday night Halloween in NYC, it IS possible to have a truly great night
out with a bit of research and pre-planning. With NYC alternative nightlife in an upswing, there are so many promising Halloween choices this year
that we were forced to whittle this
list. We've included six distinctly different Halloween events with cover at $20 or under, at nightclubs and alternative spaces, hosted or programmed by some
of our favorite creative types. For many more choices visit the EDGE OF NIGHT forum on THE MOTHERBOARDS, where Board Moderators select events of special interest to our audience.

@DON HILLS
511 GREENWICH AVENUE AT SPRING, NYC
DOORS 10PM, 21 + ID A MUST
COVER $5 - $15
If Halloween means wearing extravagant makeup and dancing to a rock-tinged soundtrack amongst New Kids and gender-benders, this special Halloween edition of the much-loved RATED X party is your ticket for Saturday night. Besides the scene-stealing DJs MICHAEL T (MOTHERFUCKER founding producer and performance star) and THEO (THEO & THE SKYSCRAPERS and SCREEN TEST) and the general cheap-and-cheerful ambience of DON HILLS, other delights abound. Highlights will include MC PEPPERMINT GUMMYBEAR, hostly creatures ACID BETTY, NEON MUSIC, ANDY SHAW and JOE PHANTASTIC and a cabaret show by the fiendishly lovely DARENZIA. Add two contests with cash prizes and the hosts joining guest DJs TWIG THE WONDERKID and CRAIG CURIOSITY to spin "Rock N'Ghoul, Putrid Punk, Nosferatu New Wave and Death Disco."
KENNY SCHARF AND SCOTT EWALT PRESENT
COSMIC CAVERN A-GO-GO
GRUESOME HALLOWEEN FREAK-OUT DANCE PARTY
993A METROPLITAN AVENUE (BETWEEN CATHERINE + MORGAN), EAST WILLIAMSBURG
10 PM
$8 COVER (DRESS FOR BLACKLIGHT)
This newish party in artist KENNY SCHARF's Brooklyn studio is a riot of dayglo and blacklight fantasy, audience participation and brilliant visuals, attended by an Artstar-studded clientele. Both of the producers are artists and it shows - DJ SCOTT EWALT brings his curatorial magic to the evening's soundtrack, and Scharf's chaotic, witty visual imprimateur is literally on every surface of the space. We hesitated to even list this Halloween edition due to the night's small scale and devoted following, but it is so special that we wanted you to know about it. The Cosmic Cavern is billing it as a WAY-OUT GRUESOME HALLOWEEN FREAK OUT DANCE PARTY, and the featured performance is by BEADZ ON NET ILLUSION. Absolutely dress for Blacklight - for inspiration visit this COSMIC CAVERN party report with pictures on THE MOTHERBOARDS.

The party room of this restaurant, part of the legendary UKRAINIAN NATIONAL HOME, will be all about the drinking and dancing - leave the pierogis for another day! If you live in the neighborhood, yet hate the Saturday-night EV bar hordes, this is a
great choice that should be full of familiar faces.
