THE NIGHTCLUB HISTORY AND RESOURCES SITE FROM MOTHERNYC

Advertise on this site

CLUB 101 is an ongoing project of Mothernyc.com and its nightclub history forum THE CLUB CHRONICLES. Nightclub production in NYC and other cities has become a big business, but the most important clubs throughout the decades have often been home-made. As an inspiration to young and beginning nightclub producers and performers, we offer this online collection of nightclub history resources.

New York City Nightlife has long been a laboratory for music, personal style cults, movies and all of the visual arts. Some of the best weekly and monthly parties are just small groups of friends with a passion to create the kind of club environments they feel good in. Even the busiest venue is usually looking for smaller parties to fill up the quieter nights. This is how niche nightclubs are born and grow. So, if you don't like what's out there, create your own NYC night.

When you are ready, visit THE MOTHERBOARDS, the free and busy forums of NYC Nightlife Culture, and post that opening night so interested clubbers from around the city and world can find out about it. Post in the NYC Nightclub and Events Forum and read up on other new events while you're there.

NIGHTCLUB BOOKS

Visit our CLUB 101 NIGHTCLUB BOOKS page for in-print books on clubs including Studio 54, 19th Century dives of Lower Manhattan, Area, CBGB, Danceteria, Disco 2000 and many more.

NIGHTCLUB VIDEOS

Nightclub history used to be preserved only in memory, but now thanks to YOUTUBE and other online video tools, its easy to visit scenes and venues that disappeared decades ago. Visit our NIGHTCLUB HISTORY channel on YouTube for videos ranging from LEIGH BOWERY to THE MUDD CLUB.

The extensive NELSON SULLIVAN archive is also well worth a visit for 1980's downtown nyc club footage of important Lost Scenes.

NIGHTCLUB HISTORY FORUM

The CLUB CHRONICLES forum on THE MOTHERBOARDS NYC is a storehouse of topics about NYC Club History and scenes. The wildly popular PARTY MONSTER topics share space with NYC club discussions, including the Pyramid Club, Danceteria, The Mudd Club and so many more.

DIVAS AND LEGENDS

Visit the QUEENMOTHER.TV site for NYC GIRLS, archives of NYC drag club stars, including INTERNATIONAL CHRYSIS (above) seen at Danceteria in 1986.
